PROFILE: DJ Black

Kwadwo Ampofo also known as DJ black is a Ghanaian DJ born in Ghana and was raised in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria. He started his DJ career at a younger age in High school (Ofori Panin SHS) OPASS. 1995 Black joined Prime Cut and work alongside veteran Ghanaian DJs like Azigiza Jnr now a pastor, DJ Magic Sam, DJ Rab, DJ Kakra and many others. He later moved to manage Dope Rhyme Studio in Nima Accra Ghana, the year 1997 giving rise to his clench on hip-pop in Ghana. Kwadwo Ampofo (DJ Black) became the favorite DJ of the street as he made mixtapes and spinner for Hip-lifers such as VIP, Bukbak, Obrafou and many others, being in the forefront of people who strengthened the movement of HIPLIFE. DJ Black started radio Universe Host Space Jam and gave birth to his controversial Hip-hop Show which is still airing on “JOY FM”. 

He released the Afro-hop series of mixtapes, Ghana Club Banger series and also hosted Coptic’s Blackstarline mixtape with Lee Kasumba of South Africa. Black was the first judge to be choose for the emcee battle in Africa. Being recognized for this skills, Mr. Black makes frequent appearance at DejaVu night club, Liberia, Moloko now Hush, Johannesburg and several clubs in Africa. In the year 1999 DJ Black, went to the university to studied diploma in Public Admin, Management and graduated the year 2001. 

After the university DJ Black got noticed by Gabby Adjetey and started working with JOY FM, hosting the open house party, Joy Beach Jam, Weekend Warmer and others show in the same year he graduated from the university and won Rothmas Best DJ West Africa. Kwadwo Ampofo hosted Events, Concerts, Album Launches, Tours, Clubs, Mixtapes and so on… In the year 2003 he went back to university of Ghana to study Ba Mass Communication, Public Relations and graduated 2006. He later partnered with Schwarz Bless ‘on (Radio Cardiff) and Noste Amarteyfio to manage artiste and DJs such as Dretonio, Philo, E-dBle and many others a year before he graduated from the university of Ghana with Ba in Mass Communication, Public Relations (2005) .  

Black, then went on to improve the brand as the voice over artiste and a mentor. DJ Black on JOY FM controls radio such as the weekend Warmer which throwbacks and guest spots has a mature audience entertained whilst the Open House Party on Saturdays keep the youth awaken. In 2011, the DJ perform on Big Brothers Africa which made him got the recognition to win best Radio DJ in Ghana, adding on to 2010’s Africa’s No2 top Radio DJ of the year and the 2010’s Red Carpet award from sniper Squad DJ’s.  he was appointed Social Media Ambassador for DSTV Ghana in May 2012.He has also won the best 2013,2014,2015,2016 best DJ t at the Ghana DJ Awards, he has also been nominated in 3 categories, Best African DJ, Best West African DJ and the best Radio DJ in the African Global DJ Awards.

2009, Mr. Black won the 2009 Red carpet awards independent artist and DJ. In 2010, DJ Black formed the TOONTOOM the brand with TOONTOOM Agency Studio at Accra Ghana Kokomlemle.
