The announcement follows a distribution deal that the artist signed with Universal Music South Africa. As the newest Up Next artist to be spotlighted from South Africa, Maglera Doe Boy will be featured on Apple Music’s Up Next playlist. The news follows the release of his debut album Diaspora, which is available on Apple Music in Spatial Audio.

The project reflects on his formative years while looking towards the future. The album uses carefully curated features from Focalistic, 25K and KayGizm.
“It is such a blessing to be selected for Up Next South Africa,” Maglera Doe Boy told Apple Music. “I feel like this is a pivotal moment in the renaissance of the artscape in South Africa and I am so excited for the world to hear my project Diaspora, which is my contribution to that. With love from the township.”

The global Up Next playlist features a dynamic class of emerging artists, handpicked by Apple Music editors from around the world. The playlist is genre-agnostic and represents a line-up of artists who Apple Music’s global editors are passionate about and eager to expose to a larger audience.
Born, Tokelo Moyakhe, Maglera Doe Boy was raised in the Kanana township near Klerksdorp. He made a strong impression with his 2015 debut EP Progression, which was named as one of Hype Magazine’s top 5 underrated mixtapes and EPs.

Maglera Doe Boy is a pioneer of the ‘strata’ genre, which means ‘the streets’. He grew up in an area heavily impacted by gang violence. His music displays a passion for rich storytelling, earning him a plethora of prominent features, such as his debut on Khuli Chana’s ‘All Hail’ featuring Cassper Nyovest, 25K’s ‘Quarter to Six’ and Yanga Chief’s ‘Fort Hare’.
