NEWS: Tems And Rema To Play Lollapalooza 2023

Tems and Rema of Afrobeats have been announced for Lollapalooza 2023, which will take place at Grant Park in Chicago from August 3 to 6.

Lollapalooza, which attracts over 400 000 attendees each year, has expanded to various venues around the world since its debut edition in 1991, including Chicago, Berlin, Paris, Buenos Aires, and So Paulo.

The duo, who recently co-headlined the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend game in the United States with fellow Nigerian musician Burna Boy, will perform with more than 170 artists across nine stages, displaying a variety of musical styles such as pop, rock, hip hop, and electronica.

Rema and Tems are significant figures in Afrobeats, which is often regarded as the world's fastest growing genre. Rema's 'Calm Down' just became the most-watched Afrobeats video on YouTube, with over 410 million views, while Tems has led other astounding achievements, including breaking 1 billion Spotify streams across all credits.

Previous African artists at Lollapalooza include Nigerian rapper Ladipoe, who performed at the festival in 2020. Musician and broadcaster Selema Masekela, son of late South African jazz superstar Hugh Masekela, also performed at that year's edition.

Meanwhile, American singers Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Lana Del Rey, as well as Colombian singer Karol G, have been announced as Lollapalooza 2023 headliners.

Pre-sale tickets will go on sale on March 23rd on Lollapalooza's official website.
