The project aims to restore access to clean and sustainable freshwater sources, alleviating water scarcity and mitigating the health complications caused by irresponsible mining practices. Recently, renowned Ghanaian reggae and dancehall musician, StoneBwoy, founder of The Livingstone Foundation, officially commissioned the first phase of the community borehole project in four communities in Takoradi, Ghana.
The Livingstone Foundation recognizes the pressing issue of water scarcity faced by communities affected by illegal mining activities. In Borkor Awukukope, a farming community in the Shama District Assembly of Takoradi, Western Region, the only reliable source of drinking water has been the River Pra. However, due to the adverse effects of illegal mining, access to this vital resource has been severely compromised, leading to a surge in health complications within the community. Witnessing the plight of these communities, The Livingstone Foundation made a commitment to provide clean and sustainable freshwater withdrawals, significantly reducing the number of people suffering from water scarcity.
On June 14th, 2023, StoneBwoy, the renowned musician and founder of The Livingstone Foundation, officially commissioned the first phase of the borehole project in four communities within the Takoradi region. These communities include Bokor AwukuKorpe, New Daboase Junction, Beposo Nkran Ghamon, and Atseambua. This milestone event marked a crucial step in restoring hope and access to safe drinking water for the residents affected by the devastating consequences of illegal Chinese mining activities.
