Lagos, Nigeria – Rising Afrobeats star Asake stole the limelight at this year's prestigious The Future Awards Africa, emerging as the victor in the highly competitive music category. The news of this triumph was announced over the weekend, marking a pivotal moment in the singer's career.
In a closely contested battle for the coveted accolade, Asake outshone fellow Nigerian sensation Ayra Starr, the sensational talent from Cameroon, Libianca, French-Malian chart-topper Aya Nakamura, and the remarkable French singer-songwriter of Cameroonian origin, Tayc.
The Future Awards Africa, organized by the influential social enterprise The Future Project, is dedicated to recognizing the extraordinary achievements of young individuals aged 18 to 31 across various domains. This year's 17th edition revolved around the theme of "Defying Odds, Inspiring Greatness," and celebrated accomplishments in an impressive array of 25 diverse categories, including dance, sports, film, entrepreneurship, and technology.
Notably, the accolade Asake claimed was previously won by the gifted Tems in the previous year. The roll of past recipients boasts industry titans such as Wizkid, recipient of the 2017 Young Person of the Year award, and the musical luminaries Davido and Burna Boy, who secured victories in the music categories in 2017 and 2019, respectively.
