In a pivotal development, A$AP Rocky, the 35-year-old hip-hop sensation and fashion mogul, will be heading to trial over allegations that he fired a gun at a former friend and collaborator outside a Hollywood hotel in 2021. Superior Court Judge M.L. Villar delivered the decision on Monday following a day and a half of testimony during the preliminary hearing.
Rocky, a two-time Grammy nominee and currently in a relationship with music icon Rihanna, pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. His attorney sought to introduce doubt into the case by questioning a police detective during the proceedings.
Judge Villar, in her ruling, emphasized that the decision to proceed to trial was based on the "totality of the video and testimony." She clarified that preliminary hearings have a lower evidence standard than trials, with the court only determining probable cause at this stage.
The hip-hop star, known for his chart-topping hits, displayed no visible reaction as the judge made her decision in the courtroom. The case is set to move forward, adding a new chapter to the legal proceedings surrounding A$AP Rocky's alleged involvement in the incident.
