Biography:
Born and raised in Ashanti Mampong, Ghana, before later moving to Kumasi, Mike Akox grew up as a naturally energetic and entertaining child. Known in his community as “the showman,” he was always singing and dancing at parties, school events, and local gatherings, bringing life and excitement wherever he went.
His love for music began at a very young age. At just five years old, he would sneak out to watch live bands perform at funerals, hiding behind them to observe and learn highlife music before eventually getting the chance to sing. These early moments played a huge role in shaping his musical journey.
Coming from a musical family, he was constantly surrounded by music. His uncle, Papa Shee, was a dancer for the legendary Daddy Lumba before later becoming a musician himself. This strong musical background helped nurture his passion and direction.
He was also inspired by global performers such as Michael Jackson and James Brown, whose stage presence and ability to command audiences influenced his own performance style and “Showman” persona.
Mike Akox believes music is his calling, describing himself as “Mr. Music Man,” someone born to entertain. He officially began his professional music journey after moving to Australia at the age of 16, where he started developing his sound and career. His daily routine reflects discipline and balance starting his day with prayer, followed by studio sessions, content creation, business work, running, rehearsals, and taking time to rest and stay mentally grounded.
Like every journey, he has experienced failure, but he overcomes it by learning, growing, and trying again. He views failure as a stepping stone rather than a dead end, a mindset that fuels his persistence as “The Showman.”
Although he is yet to perform on his dream stages, he looks forward to selling out iconic venues such as Madison Square Garden and The O2 Arena, as well as Ghana’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium.
Beyond music, he is passionate about humanitarian work and entrepreneurship. He created the “Ragga Rover,” an innovative coconut box designed to promote Ghana’s coconut industry globally, combining business with cultural impact. In his free time, he enjoys dancing, cooking, and being of service to others. While he admires and learns from other artists, he remains committed to originality and aims to be remembered for being himself.
His advice to upcoming artists is to follow their own path, stay confident and curious, remain prayerful, keep practicing, and never give up.
