Born in Cape Coast in Ghana’s Central Region, Joel Arhin, popularly known as JoeRich, has always had a deep connection with music. Although he was born in Cape Coast, he is currently based in Koforidua in Ghana’s Eastern Region, where he continues to develop his music career and entrepreneurial activities. From a young age, he was drawn to music, performance, fashion, and the freedom that comes with creative expression.
Growing up around music, JoeRich found himself fascinated by artists who could command a stage and connect with people through their music. He was also interested in fashion and the way artists used their appearance and style to express their personalities. Over time, these interests became an important part of how he began to see himself as an artist.
JoeRich attended Larteh Presbyterian Senior Technical School (Larteh PSTS) in the Eastern Region, where he studied General Arts. Even during his teenage years, he strongly believed that he was destined to become a superstar. He started experimenting with music early, writing rhymes, practicing his flow, and gradually developing his skills as a rapper.
After completing his tertiary education, JoeRich began taking his music more seriously. He started writing and recording songs, turning a passion he had carried for years into something more purposeful. Around 2022/2023, he began pursuing music professionally and focused on building his career and finding his own sound.
One of the important moments in his journey came in 2018, when he released his single “Hustle 2.” The song attracted attention on social media and within Ghana’s music community. With catchy hooks and lyrics that spoke about struggles, dreams, ambition, and the desire to make something out of life, the song connected with many listeners and helped put JoeRich on the radar of more people in the music space.
Since then, JoeRich has continued to work on his craft and expand his catalogue. He has recorded around 10 rap songs and has worked with several talented Ghanaian artistes. He has also released “Sexing,” a song that shows another side of his creativity and his willingness to explore different sounds.
For JoeRich, music is closely connected to his experiences and the things he sees around him. His songs are influenced by his personal journey, his ambitions, and his observations about life. More than anything, he wants his music to be a true reflection of who he is while building a genuine relationship with the people who listen to him.
His relationship with his fans is also important to him. JoeRich appreciates positive comments, encouragement, and meaningful interactions. He doesn't allow negative comments to distract him, although he understands that not all criticism is bad. Sometimes, constructive criticism helps him recognize areas where he can improve and become a better artiste.
His journey has not always been easy. Like many upcoming artistes, JoeRich has faced disappointments and setbacks along the way. One experience that stayed with him happened when he was scheduled to perform at a show but was not allowed to take the stage. The incident eventually led to rumors and speculation, but rather than allowing the experience to discourage him, he treated it as another lesson about the realities of the entertainment industry.
For JoeRich, setbacks are part of the journey. What matters is learning from them, staying focused, and continuing to move forward.
One of the performance experiences he particularly enjoys is the VGMA Nominees Jams, where he has had the opportunity to experience the excitement, energy, and atmosphere that come with Ghana's music industry.
Music, however, is not the only thing JoeRich is passionate about. He is also an entrepreneur and owns a phone shop in Koforidua, which keeps him busy outside his music career. On a normal day, he may spend time at his shop making sure everything is running smoothly, then switch gears and spend time listening to music, writing lyrics, recording, or developing new ideas for his artistry.
Away from music and business, JoeRich is a football enthusiast and plays as a striker. He also enjoys listening to music and writing songs, with much of his free time going into creating and experimenting with new music.
When it comes to musical influences, JoeRich looks up to some of Ghana and Africa's biggest names, including Wizkid, Sarkodie, and Medikal. Their careers, achievements, and influence have inspired him as he works toward creating his own identity and leaving his own mark on the music industry.
Although he is still waiting for his first major music award, JoeRich remains positive about what lies ahead. For him, success is not only about awards or recognition. He believes that with consistency, dedication, patience, and hard work, the recognition will eventually come.
JoeRich also wants his journey to be about more than his own success. He has been involved in outreach activities in Accra focused on inspiring and supporting young artistes. Through these activities, as well as his collaborations with other artistes, he hopes to play a part in building a stronger creative community and creating meaningful relationships within the industry.
At the heart of JoeRich's philosophy is self-belief, focus, and persistence. His message to upcoming artistes is simple: believe in yourself, stay focused on your goals, and don't get distracted by what other people are doing. Everyone has their own journey, and he believes that with consistent effort, anything is possible.
Today, JoeRich is based in Koforidua while continuing to build his career within Ghana's wider music scene. Born in Cape Coast and shaped by his experiences in the Eastern Region and beyond, his journey is one of ambition, creativity, setbacks, lessons, and persistence.
