NEWS: Tragic Incident at University of Cape Coast's 60th SRC Celebration Leaves Student DJ With Severe Leg Injury.

During the 60th SRC celebration at the University of Cape Coast on July 22nd, 2023, a tragic incident occurred, causing a severe leg injury to Ampofo Samuel Darkwa, a level 200 student known as a student DJ. The unfortunate event unfolded when Dance Hall King Shatta Wale took the stage, prompting fans to rush forward in excitement. Amidst the chaos, Samuel, a member of the entertainment committee positioned behind the stage, struggled to control the enthusiastic crowd. Tragically, he was knocked down and had his leg trapped in a barricade as fans stepped on him, resulting in a broken leg.

Despite the severity of the incident, most people initially ignored Samuel's plight for several minutes. To compound matters, the program organizers, SRC, and school officials have yet to address the situation, leaving the injured student without any official response.

After being rushed to the hospital, Samuel underwent surgery to treat his broken leg. However, the incident has left his family deeply concerned, anxiously awaiting news about his ability to walk again.

The event's organizers, UniLandFest, are known for hosting dynamic gatherings that unite the best African creatives, offering networking opportunities for tertiary students and the youth market. Their events celebrate a wide range of music genres, from Afrobeats to Hip Hop, RnB, Dancehall, Amapiano, and electric music, fostering a sense of global connection among students from various universities and tertiary institutions.

As Samuel receives much-needed medical attention, his family remains vigilant, eagerly anticipating the response from the program's organizers and university authorities to address this unfortunate incident. The incident has raised concerns about event safety and the necessity for improved crowd control measures in such celebrations.
