NEWS: Gospel Music Icon KODA Passes Away at 45.

Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Kofi Owusu Dua Anto, known by stage name KODA, passed away early Sunday, April 21st, 2024. He was 45 years old.

The news was confirmed by fellow gospel artist and friend Nii Okai. "KODA has passed onto glory in the early hours of Sunday April 21, 2024," Okai wrote in a statement. "Let us pray for the family as we all process the news of his transition."


Details surrounding KODA's passing are yet to be made public, but unconfirmed reports suggest he had been battling an illness.


Hailing from Takoradi, Western Region, KODA was a pillar of Ghana's contemporary gospel scene.  A talented singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, his passion extended beyond performance.  He played a significant role in shaping the sound of other artists through his production work.


KODA's illustrious career included producing music for gospel greats like the late Danny Nettey, Ps. Joe Beechem, Nii Okai himself, Halal Afrika, Eugene Zuta, and more.  His own discography boasts an impressive collection of 3 studio albums, 2 live albums, and a unique offering of 2 instrumental/jazz albums.


'Keteke,' released  just recently, marked his sixth vocal album.  KODA leaves behind a legacy of powerful gospel anthems including "Nkwaa Abodo," "Nsem Pii," "Adooso," "Hossana," "Poma Dadaa," "Amen," and the uplifting "Zion Song."


The Urban Afro joins the Ghanaian music community in mourning the loss of this talented artist.  His music and dedication to the genre will undoubtedly continue to inspire for generations to come.
