NEWS: US Lab Denies Conducting Toxicity Test on Nigerian Singer Mohbad.

Authorities from the National Medical Service Laboratories (NMS) in Pennsylvania have denied conducting a toxicity test on the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. This statement refutes claims made by the Lagos State government regarding the singer's autopsy.

The denial follows a pathologist's assertion on May 15 that Mohbad's autopsy could not determine his cause of death due to the decomposition of his body. This revelation has intensified the ongoing controversy and public outcry over the mysterious circumstances of the singer's death, prompting further scrutiny and protests.

Esther Dede, Client Services Associate for the Forensic Division of NMS, stated unequivocally that the lab had no record of conducting tests on Mohbad. "Unfortunately, we do not have a case for that patient," she said, noting the necessity of authorization from the submitting agency to maintain compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations.

In response, Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, stood by the claim that NMS Labs had conducted the test, citing information from the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre. He mentioned that the centre works with several affiliated labs and had confirmed NMS Labs as the facility used for Mohbad's test. Omotoso suggested the need for further verification given the conflicting reports.

Mohbad, aged 27, passed away under unclear circumstances on September 12, 2023. His death has sparked significant public interest and debate, with a reward of N50 million offered by African Television and the African Foundation for Justice for information regarding his death.

Mohbad's lawyer, Wahab Shittu, emphasized the suspicious nature of the inconclusive autopsy results and called for a thorough investigation. "Until those questions are asked, you cannot say this is the outcome of the report. I employ everybody to have an open mind until we look at all the possibilities," Shittu remarked.

The Lagos State Police Command has formed a special 13-member investigation team to delve into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad's death, which also led to the arrests of several individuals, including musician Naira Marley and socialite Balogun Eletu, known as Sam Larry.

Mohbad's remains were exhumed on September 21, 2023, for the autopsy, marking another step in the ongoing effort to uncover the truth behind his untimely demise.
