NEWS: Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan has sadly passed away at the age of 34.

The hip-hop world is in shock after news that Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan, whose real name was Dequantes Lamar, has passed away at the age of 34. The cause of his death is not yet known. TMZ first reported the news, with family members confirming it to Rolling Stone. 

Rich Homie Quan was best known for hits like “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).” He was a major influence on the Atlanta rap scene, helping to shape its success during the 2010s alongside other big names like Young Thug.

As soon as the news broke, artists from around the world began paying their respects on social media. Rapper Boosie Badazz was one of the first to post about it, writing on X (formerly Twitter): “JUST GOT WORD @RichHomieQuan JUST [DIED]. JUST TALKED TO YOU BRA #tipQUAN. Never go forget yo smile n the way you talked n of course yo music.” 

Another artist and friend, Jacquees, who worked closely with Rich Homie Quan over the years, wrote: “Rest in peace my brother Rich Homie Quan. I Love you for life. #Richgang,” sharing a picture of the two. Atlanta rapper Playboi Carti also paid tribute, and Quavo of Migos posted about both Quan and his late nephew TakeOff: “May god be with US. Never saw this as part of our journey.”

Rich Homie Quan became famous in 2013 with his hit song “Type of Way,” which reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. He continued to have success with collaborations like YG’s “My Hitta” and Young Thug’s “Lifestyle,” both of which were huge hits.

In 2015, he dropped his solo track “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” which also peaked at No. 12 on the charts. His style, blending catchy melodies with real-life stories from the streets, made him one of the most important voices in Atlanta rap.

Rich Homie Quan signed with Motown Records in 2017, releasing his Back to the Basics mixtape, followed by his debut album Rich As in Spirit in 2018, which peaked at No. 32 on the Billboard 200. Throughout his career, he gained more than 3.34 billion streams, making him a key figure in hip-hop.

In recent years, Quan continued to release music on his own. His last major project, Family & Mula – Reloaded, came out in 2022. He also performed at Jack Harlow’s Gazebo Festival earlier this year, showing fans he was still passionate about performing.
