Chicago-born rapper Lil Durk, known for hits like "All My Life," is facing serious legal trouble after being arrested in Florida on murder-for-hire charges. Authorities allege his involvement in a failed plot to kill fellow rapper Quando Rondo, a scheme that tragically led to the death of Rondo's cousin in 2022.
U.S. Marshals arrested Lil Durk, born Durk Devontay Banks, on Thursday evening, October 24, at his Florida residence. According to Broward County Jail records, he is currently being held without bail. The arrest follows an ongoing investigation involving his rap collective, Only the Family (OTF).
The charges come as federal authorities in Los Angeles indict five members of OTF. Those members, identified as Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston, allegedly used OTF-linked credit cards to finance the conspiracy. Investigators believe the murder-for-hire plot was intended as retaliation for the 2020 shooting death of Chicago rapper King Von, who was killed during a violent altercation outside Monaco Hookah Lounge in Atlanta.
In addition to conspiracy charges, the suspects face accusations of committing murder-for-hire resulting in death, along with firearm-related offenses, including the use of a machine gun in furtherance of a violent crime.
This arrest adds to the legal issues surrounding Lil Durk, who was recently named in a wrongful death lawsuit from the estate of rapper FBG Duck, killed in a 2020 shooting in Chicago. This news arrives just ahead of the release of Durk's ninth studio album, Deep Thoughts, casting uncertainty over its release.
Lil Durk’s arrest marks another turbulent chapter in his career, drawing attention once again to the complex and often violent connections within the rap industry. Fans and industry insiders alike are now waiting to see how these charges may impact the future of the Chicago native’s music and personal life.
