Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been granted bail of GHC10 million with two sureties to be justified, following his interrogation by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO). This was confirmed by his manager, Sammy Flex.
Background to the Case
Shatta Wale was invited by EOCO to assist in investigations surrounding a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which U.S. authorities identified as proceeds of a $4 million fraud involving Ghanaian national Nana Kwabena Amuah. Amuah is currently serving a jail sentence in the United States after being convicted in a case handled by the U.S. Justice Department and the FBI.
As part of a wider probe to uncover possible co-conspirators in Ghana and trace proceeds of the crime, EOCO tracked and eventually seized the vehicle in May 2025, when it was found in Shatta Wale’s possession.
U.S. Court Forfeiture Order
On August 15, 2025, a United States District Court in Kentucky issued a Forfeiting Substitute Asset Order on the Lamborghini, authorizing the U.S. Government to take possession of the vehicle in Ghana as restitution for the crime.
Shatta Wale, however, publicly claimed he purchased the car for $150,000 from an unidentified individual on the “street,” possibly known as Zak. He has so far been unable to provide documentation of ownership apart from a customs declaration document in the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, the jailed convict.
The EOCO Interrogation
Initially scheduled to report on August 13, 2025, Shatta Wale’s appearance was rescheduled to August 20. On the said date, he reported late—arriving at EOCO headquarters at 3 p.m. instead of the agreed 11 a.m.—and refused to cooperate until his lawyer was present.
Investigators waited until his counsel arrived around 5 p.m., after which the interrogation proceeded and concluded at 9 p.m. Despite EOCO’s official closing time of 5 p.m., officers continued working until late in the night.
At the end of the interrogation, Shatta Wale was granted GHC10 million bail with two sureties. EOCO confirmed that once the sureties are inspected and approved, he will be released from custody.
