Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has accused her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, of being behind the arrest of her brother and sister in Lagos, claiming it was a calculated move to pressure her into reconciling with him.
In an emotional series of Instagram posts on November 3, Regina said police officers stormed her brother Sammy’s apartment without a warrant and later charged him with theft and cyberbullying allegations she insists were completely made up.
“This is not just about me; it’s about my family being targeted to break me,” she wrote, sharing tearful videos as she called for justice. She also revealed that her sister had been detained in connection with the same incident, though it’s still unclear what charges were filed against her.
The accusations come amid reports of growing tension in Regina and Ned Nwoko’s marriage. The couple, who married in 2019 despite a wide age gap, share two children together.
Adding to the controversy, Regina’s mother, veteran actress and politician Rita Daniels, released a video accusing Nwoko of exploiting her daughter’s fame and finances to boost his political career. She alleged that the senator had even asked Regina to donate $50,000 to fund his campaign.
“Regina has given everything her youth, her career, her money to support this man, and this is how he repays her? By tormenting her family?” Rita said.
As of now, Senator Nwoko has not responded to the allegations, and attempts to reach his office for comment have been unsuccessful.
The incident has sparked massive reactions online, with social media users debating the power imbalance in celebrity marriages and the potential misuse of political influence. Human rights groups have also raised concerns over the alleged police misconduct and have called for an independent investigation by the Lagos State Police Command.
