NEWS: “Those That Came to Me Only Used Me for Fame” — Yaw Tog.

Ghanaian rapper Yaw Tog has opened up about the realities of fame and trust in the music industry, revealing that some people who once surrounded him were only interested in his spotlight.

In a recent interview with Kula on a podcast, the “Sore” hitmaker said that many individuals who came close to him during his rise to fame no longer reach out or show genuine interest in him.

Yaw Tog, born Thorsten Owusu Gyimah on May 8, 2003, in Kumasi, Ghana, shot to prominence in 2020 with his breakout single “Sore”, featuring O’Kenneth, City Boy, Reggie, and Jay Bahd. The song became a viral anthem, spotlighting Ghana’s Asakaa (drill) scene and earning international attention  especially after the remix featuring UK rapper Stormzy and Kwesi Arthur.

During the interview, Yaw Tog also reflected on his early career journey and how he met Koo Poku, the video director behind “Sore.” He revealed that their connection came through a friend named Andy Scott, who introduced them.
According to Yaw Tog, Koo Poku became a close friend who supported his craft by taking pictures and shooting music videos for him including Sore without charging a fee.
