The song, which was released on October 2, 2025, now qualifies for consideration under the Recording Academy’s eligibility period running from August 31, 2025, to August 28, 2026. This means “Kakalika” can now be submitted for possible nomination in categories such as Best African Music Performance or Best Global Music Performance.
DopeNation, made up of twin brothers known for their energetic style and hit-making ability, are one of Ghana’s most popular music acts. They are widely known for producing their own music and creating a unique sound that blends Afrobeat, hip-hop, and Ghana’s street-inspired “Ghanapiano” rhythm. Over the years, they have built a strong reputation for delivering club and street anthems that connect deeply with young audiences.
“Kakalika” has been one of their standout releases in recent times. The track quickly gained attention for its catchy hook, lively beat, and playful lyrics, which have inspired dance challenges and widespread use on social media. Its music video, released shortly after the song dropped, also added to its popularity with colourful visuals showcasing Ghanaian dance culture and creativity.
The GRAMMY eligibility announcement has sparked conversations about what it could mean for Ghana’s music industry. If the song is eventually nominated and wins, it would represent a significant milestone for Ghanaian music on the global stage, especially for a homegrown project led entirely by Ghana-based artists.
While Ghana has had international recognition through producers, featured artists, and collaborations, a competitive GRAMMY win for a locally driven Ghanaian record would mark a historic breakthrough and further cement the country’s growing influence in global music.
However, reaching this stage is only the beginning. The duo will still need to formally submit the track for consideration during the GRAMMY entry period. After that, members of the Recording Academy will vote to decide the official nominations, which are expected to be announced in late 2026, with final winners revealed at the ceremony in 2027.
For now, excitement continues to build as fans rally behind DopeNation, celebrating what many see as a proud moment for Ghanaian music and its rising global presence.
